Izzy Bloom

Izzy, a 10-year old girl with a rare condition known as Angelmans Syndrome has achieved a dramatic improvement to her physical ability as a result of regular water therapy at the Tadpoles Swimming Club.

Izzy Bloom, who attends Manor Green special needs school in Ifield, was unable to stand when she first came to the club seven months ago, but can now stand in the small pool and take steps. Volunteers at the club support her and work intensively with her to increase her mobility. Her foster mother, Serena Burtenshaw of Lingfield, is thrilled: "I can't believe what I'm seeing" she said, shaking her head in disbelief as she watched Izzy in the pool last week. Serena has three children of her own who have all welcomed Izzy into their family where she is thriving.
The Tadpoles Swimming Club meets at the Olympos Pool in East Grinstead every Thursday at 8pm. As well as water exercises and swimming lessons for people with disabilities, water therapy is also beneficial for those recovering from surgery.
